In addition to being a skilled acupuncture specialist, Dr. Eric Waltemate, D.C., also specializes his practice on disorders of the musculoskeletal system and the nervous system, and the effects of these disorders on general health. Chiropractic care is used most often to treat neuromusculoskeletal complaints, including but not limited to back pain, neck pain, pain in the joints of the arms or legs, and headaches.
Practicing a drug-free, hands-on approach to health and wellness, diagnosis and treatment, Dr. Waltemate utilizes both chiropractic medicine and the acupuncture to help his patients achieve better health.
The History of Chiropractic Treatments
Chinese Medicine has long used manipulation to treat various problems with nerves, muscles, bones, and joints. Back in the Zhou Dynasty (1046-256 B.C.) orthopedic and bone setting specialists had already been established.
The Greco-Roman world saw many great physicians like Hippocrates, Cato, and Galen who prescribed treating the body with spinal and other joint manipulation. Bone setting was a common practice throughout Europe and made its way to America.
In 1895, D.D. Palmer founded the basis of Chiropractic. His theory was that misalignments of the spine can irritate the nerves that branch off from the spine which then send improper information from the brain to the organs. He opened the first Chiropractic College in 1897.
From Palmer the Chiropractic profession was born and as of this date there are over 60,000 licensed Chiropractors in the United States.
Treatment Methods: Chiropractic Adjustments
The most common procedure performed in our office, outside of our acupuncture services, is known as spinal manipulation or adjustment. Chiropractic adjustment can increase mobility, decrease pain and pressure, improve posture, and align various areas of the body for optimal mechanic function. Chiropractic adjustments rarely cause pain, but may result in some mild soreness post-treatment. However, the majority of our clients report a renewed sense of wellness, and an increase in energy, when in proper alignment.
Dr. Waltemate also offers acupuncture services and traditional Chinese medicine – herbal remedies – for a variety of health conditions, and to support your overall wellness.
